For ALL sufferers - please take a look at the Arthritis Free for Life Program.
A joint is where 2 or more bones meet together. They are constructed in such a way that they allow movement and at the same time provide mechanical support to the body. All the bones in the body, except the hyoid bone found in the neck, form a joint. Though most are movable, there are those that do not allow motion.
Joints are classified functionally and structurally. Functional classification is determined by the degree of movement between bones while structural classification is based on how the bones connect to each other.
These are divided into three depending on the degree of movement they can perform. They are known as synarthrosis, amphiarthrosis and diarthrosis. Synarthrosis allows little or no mobility at all - this kind of joint can be found in the skull sutures. Amphiarthrosis on the other hand allows slight movement - most of these are found in cartilaginous joints like the vertebrates. Diarthrosis joints allow a variety of movements and are found in all kinds of synovial joints like the hip, shoulder, knee and elbows.
These are also divided into three, namely fibrous joint, cartilaginous and synovial joint. Fibrous is the classification of joints that are connected by fibrous connective tissues - this kind of joint does not allow movements. Examples of which are the bones in the pelvis and skull. The union of the vertebrae and the spinous processes are also fibrous joints.
Cartilaginous joints are those that are bound by cartilage. These allow only slight movement like those found in the ribs and spines.
Those that are not directly connected are known as synovial joints. These provide much more movement compared to the 2 mentioned earlier. The space between the 2 bones is filled with synovial fluid which serves as a lubricant and protection for the bones.
Pain in Joints can be caused by a lot of problems like trauma, injuries, stress or diseases. The most common cause of which is arthritis, a medical condition that is marked by inflammation and swelling of the affected joint.
To prevent joint pain, you should consult your doctor to determine the nature of the underlying problem. Any medical plan discussed should be followed as prescribed. For arthritis pain, anti inflammatory drugs are indicated to relieve swelling and pain. Usually, NSAIDs and aspirin are the drugs of choice, but then again, consultation with an expert is the wisest move.
Rest and exercise are important especially for non arthritis pain. Massage, warm bath and stretching exercises should be done as frequently as possible.
There are also natural programs that are created to help people suffering from joint pains, more specifically those who are suffering from arthritis. One of which is the Arthritis Free for Life. As the program claims, they provide guaranteed relief from the suffering and pain caused by joint pains in just one month.
